Cashmere is the perfect eco fashion item you can retrieve from your wardrobe year on year, remaining a classic - but how should you care for cashmere?
Cashmere is the perfect way to side-step the fast fashion trends that come and go; it has not only always remained a highly desirable fabric, but is long-lasting and sustainable.
But, one question we often get asked is how to look after cashmere to ensure it lasts as long as it should?
Sustainably sourced cashmere
Firstly, when buying something as luxurious as Cashmere, it is always important to know the origin, and that it is sustainably sourced, and how it has been produced.
Linea Azzurro cashmere yarn is fully traceable to the cashmere goats in Mongolia, where the cold climate and lifestyle of the their goats, produces the longest and softest cashmere. Mongolian herders yield some of the finest Cashmere in the world.
Can you machine wash cashmere?
At Linea Azzurro our 100% cashmere is machine washable; our label recommends a 40 degree wash but you can also wash on a lower temp at 30 degrees which also saves you on your energy bills. According to some polls you could actually save up to 40% per year dropping down to a 30 degree wash! Use the gentler wool cycle and turn cashmere garments inside out to wash them.
Dry cashmere naturally
Do not be tempted to tumble dry your cashmere jumper, no matter how much of a rush you are in. The added heat could cause cashmere to shrink. It is also important that you do not wring or twist cashmere to take out excess water, this will cause cashmere to misshapen; it is important to reshape cashmere while damp and dry flat to ensure it remains in the best condition.
Avoid ironing cashmere
Again, it’s the heat that will affect the cashmere so ironing should be avoided. If you must remove some creases make sure to switch the iron to the cool wool setting and ensure the iron is completely clean to avoid any stains being ironed on to the wool.
Extra care for cashmere
To take even more care of your cashmere you could consider using a mesh bag in the washing machine to protect it from snags. For the same reason you should also try to avoid wearing intricate jewellery that could snag your garment.
